Online Preliminary Auditions for The City of Edinburgh Music School
Preliminary auditions will be accepted anytime between October 26th and the deadline for applications – Monday 11th January, at noon. Before this you need to submit an online application on our website: https://www.edinburghmusicschool.co.uk/apply-now.html
All auditions should be uploaded to YouTube as an UNLISTED video and then sent to us as a YouTube ‘SHARE’ Link. E.g. https://youtu.be/9_nTSD-ina8
If you do not already have one – you will need to create your own YouTube account. This can all be done using your smartphone, tablet or webcam enabled desktop computer.
The video should be like a short recital introduced by yourself and featuring all of the instruments you are auditioning on – this could be one, two or three instruments (including voice) depending on what you play. For very young applicants – just show us what you can do on your instrument so far and/or sing us a song.
The recording should be all done in one single take if possible – to show us how you would perform in a short concert. The introduction should tell us who you are and the title and composer of each of your pieces
The total recording should be between 10 and 20 minutes long.
You can record it at home, but try and find somewhere quiet and well lit.
You have a free choice of repertoire for your audition, but please send us a recent recording.
You can wear what you like, as long as you are comfortable – but try to make sure we can see both of your hands, and your overall posture and technique when playing.
At this stage – do not worry about an accompanist. If you are invited in for one of the final auditions in February or March, we will provide an accompanist and allow you some time with them to rehearse before you play.
