Flora Stevenson

At the turn of the century, a woman with great vision and courage became Chairman of the very first Edinburgh School Board. Flora Stevenson, championing the cause for the participation of women in education with her sister Louisa, initiated many ventures across the City which were to give women an equal opportunity for life. Our school is proud to take her name and today Flora Stevenson Primary School provides education for over 500 children.

Set in the heart of Stockbridge where Edinburgh's artists, writers and musicians gather, is Broughton, a modern secondary school with extensive playing fields. Serving six primary schools on the north-west side of the City, Broughton is a true comprehensive school to which young people of different backgrounds, interests and abilities are equally welcome and important.

This guide is intended to help parents play their part in the process.

The Selection Procedure

A preliminary audition can be arranged through the Director of The Music School at any time during the academic year. On the basis of this informal meeting advice will be given on whether or not to proceed further. Those short-listed for a final audition will be called in for assessment by a panel of highly-renowned musicians from both within and outwith the School.
